Love in the form of 20 quid second-hand jeans

Whilst looking at the mountain of clean washing I have yet to put away, I spotted a pair of my treasured dark blue skinny jeans - that’s this weeks outfit's sorted! This sighting got me to thinking about how it had come to be that a second - hand pair of jeans have become such an integral part of my wardrobe.

The quest to find the perfect pair of jeans that fit just right is failed daily by millions of women, but a handful, amongst whom I am one - find the holy grail, the perfect pair and all the frustration fades away. Finally there yours, but you refuse to believe they are real until you get them home and try them on in front of your own mirror!

I borrowed my perfect pair from a friend around 3 years ago - I wore them once and begged her to sell them to me. Skinny “PIPPA” jeans from Topshop - originally dark denim now a most desirable light blue; slightly stretch; tight at the ankle; zip front fastening just below the belly button which can be pulled a bit higher on skinny weeks! They fit me perfectly, they go with everything and they have a hole on the hip - a scar from the many times I have called them into action which I think gives them character. For me, they are love in the form of 20 quid second hand jeans.
I've just Googled jeans, and read all about the origins, history, facts and figures...yawn - what actually matters is that I love and wear jeans all the time, they are a staple item of clothing for people of all shapes, sizes, cultures and socio - economic backgrounds, and believe it or not, there is literally a style to suit everyone.

The word denim comes from one of its many independent places of origin - Nimes in France (De Nimes). Jeans have been knocking around from as early as the 17th century , but only became fashionable to the masses around the 1970’s, and since then they have been a fashion fixture. I can't imagine there are many people who have never, or do not own a pair of jeans in some form.

Want to find the holy grail of jeans? The secret is this - spend less time complaining about people with good jeans and set yourself the task of finding your own pair. The perfect pair of jeans is worth the effort, and if your not successful on your next shopping trip -  there is always next week, the internet, trying on a friends and looking for second- hand jean outlets in markets ( I recommend Camden). Designate a whole day to trying on jeans, it's just one day, and if you really want them, I can assure you -  they are out there waiting for you.
